1978-இல் படிகள் என்ற சிற்றிதழுக்காக சுஜாதா ஒரு பேட்டி கொடுத்திருக்கிறார். அப்போது அவரிடம் ஒரு கேள்வி:
படிகள்: நாங்கள் அல்லது இன்னொருவர் உங்களின் இலக்கியத்தனமான படைப்புகளைத் தொகுத்துத் தர விரும்புகிறோம் என்று வைத்துக் கொள்வோம். அப்போது உங்கள் எழுத்துகளில் எவற்றை எல்லாம் கொடுப்பீர்கள்? ஒரு பட்டியல் தாருங்களேன்.

இவைகளை என் முதல் கதைத் தொகுப்பாகவும், Assorted Prose என்று உரைநடைப் பகுதிகள் எனப் பல நூல்களிலிருந்தும் எடுத்து மற்றொரு புத்தகமாகவும் வெளியிடலாம். இலக்கியத் தரம் என்கிற பாகுபாட்டை விட Representative of my writing என்கிற பாகுபாட்டில்தான் வெளியிடுவேன்.
இந்த சிறுகதைகளுக்கான மின்பிரதிகள் கிடைக்குமா? குறிப்பாக ‘தனிமை கொண்டு’. சுட்டிகள் கிடைத்தால் சொல்லுங்கள், இணைத்துவிடலாம்…

i have located thanimaai kondu it is selected in S.Ramakrishnan’s ‘enrum Sujata’ thervum thoguppum’book…Uyirmmai publishers. i have not read. will read and tell you my reaction to morrow, bala AHD.

I have read ‘thanimai kondu’.it is similar to Nylon kayiru. I think Nylon kayiru was written earlier. story is also ordinary level. Bala

With due respect to the late author, I have some reservations about his talent. Yes I agree that he was immensely talented in the initial days but towards the end his writings and serial stories became a dull affair – especially the one he wrote in Vikatan – I didn’t feel like continuing to read it. It was about a girl who stays in a hostel away from her warring parents and according to the story, becomes pregnant without her knowing what sexual intercourse is about. I mean – rather than the content, the attempt to sensationalise was more visible. I do not know what made him constantly write about a woman’s bosom – right from “Karaiyellam Chenbagapoo” to “Rattam Ore Niram”. I heard that in real life he was very timid. When Seshan asked him to go to Kashmir, he started sweating!
I have read some of his short stories and yes they make for good reading. But as he grew old I thought that he became more repetitive. Today if you read “kanavu thozhirsalai” you feel what was the big deal about it? Why was it hyped so much!
Even in a simple story like – “Gayatri” Sujata has not spared the heroine and the vivid and gory details of the sexual escapades of the couple on the first night are at times repulsive. Why did he have to rely so much on sex to titillate the audience? I fail to understand.
Jeeno is his discovery and we all appreciate it. But at times I feel that he was put on a pedestal more than what he deserved.

சந்திரப்பிரபா, என் கருத்தில் சுஜாதா வணிக எழுத்தாளர்களில் முதன்மையானவர். இலக்கியமும் படைத்திருக்கிறார். ஆனால் ஒரு புனைவு எழுத்தாளராக அவரது relevance எண்பதுகளோடு முடிந்துவிட்டது என்றுதான் நினைக்கிறேன்.
