This is an often encountered motif in Kurunthokai. All the world is sleeping without a care, and I can’t sleep as I am pining for my love. It has almost become a cliche in Indian poetry. It is repeated even today in film songs. But despite being a familiar cliche, still the poem has something in it.
Luckily, there is a translation by A.K.Ramanujan, you all don’t have to suffer through mine.
இதுவும் சர்வசாதாரணமான விஷயம்தான். ஏறக்குறைய தேய்வழக்காகவே ஆகிவிட்ட விஷயம்தான். பல சினிமாப் பாடல்களில் கேட்டிருப்போம். உதாரணமாக வாலி படகோட்டி திரைப்படத்துக்காக ரத்தினச் சுருக்கமாக ‘ஊரெங்கும் தூங்கையிலே, நான் உள்மூச்சு வாங்கையிலே’ என்று எழுதி இருக்கிறார். ஹிந்தியில் கூட ஒரு பாட்டு நினைவுக்கு வருகிறது – ஸோ கயா யே ஜஹான் (திரைப்படம்: தேசாப்). ஆனாலும் அதில் ஏதோ இருக்கிறது.
